12 Content ideas for Salon's Social Media!

If you are struggling to come up with ideas for what to post on your social media, i have some great ideas for you.

I worked for a beauty salon/hair salon/laser hair removal group so i had to come up with so many ideas for content - some worked and some didn’t - I am giving you what worked for my client and me!

  1. Befores and Afters.

These are some of my FAVOURITE things to look at the on internet. There is something so satisfying about it. Hair is a great one for this. You can put together videos of the process too and speed it up so people can see it happen within seconds! Beauty treatments like brows and lashes are great, and with longer working treatments like laser hair removal and microneedling you can snap a picture each session to build up a case study - this is a great trust factor exercise for your customer to pick you.

2. Drop in at home tips - what can they do to get strong nails? What can they do to stop dry skin? If you have products you sell that can help, you can also promote these products too. People love to learn so if you can educate them it means the customer will trust you and buy from you.

3. Staff Photos. Most of the girls that work at the salon hated to get their pictures taken - so make it something that is fun and show that it will get them bookings and a full column.

4. Reviews

Start developing a bank of reviews! Make a template using Canva and post these every so often - this is a great part of the trust part of your clients journey so they can see other people recommending your business.

5. Make a Spotify playlist to play in your salon that reflects what you want the vibe to be. Then you can make a post every so often showing people where to listen - this builds into the relationship part of your customer journey.

6. How can your clients book with you? Do you want to be booked from DM? Do you have a dedicated Booking website? Make a post and Instagram Story Highlight so bookings are easy and flowing.

7. Do you have a email list? You should. Set up with Mailchimp to start and grab those emails. Offer a discount code or some kind of freebie. You don’t need to email a lot but if you have a new service or something to promote you have an audience ready.

8. What Holidays or local events are coming up? Is there Race Days where you are, or a big event where hair, makeup and beauty services will be in high demand? Post about your services or do a special Instagram offer.

9. Do you have a loyalty plan? These are going to be your most loyal customers and if you can get new ones on the list, then people are less likely to stray. Promote this at least once or twice a month on social media, with the salon still being the main place to promote from.

10. Give your potential clients a video tour of your salon. This gives people a view into what the salon feels like and if it’s right for them. Keep in mind people who are disabled or not comfortable with going to the hair salon and highlight ways that they will be looked after in your environment.

11. Encourage your clients to take selfies and tag you or send them to you and you can post them on your social media. These photos are gold, as they are more powerful than most of the pictures you will put up as they are real people who have had your service and loved it. Build up a healthy library of these and use them as much as you can.

12. Talk about Gift Cards, especially around gifting holidays. Always offer ideas for who they could be for or what occasion to get people excited about them. Talk about how the giftee will feel once they have used the gift card for their chosen service - calm, happy, relaxed, pampered etc. Bring it to life.

These are some ideas that have worked well for me and my clients - pop them into your content plan today!
