User Generated Content and why you should be using it NOW

Hi guys!

This blog is all about User Generated Content or UGC. This is a much under utilised tactic when it comes to social media but very much plays into the algorithm and what people love to see.

What is UGC?

This is when someone uploads a picture to social media showing your product or service and talking about it. It could be a form of skincare, or a girls day out. Either way you have a great picture and great copy to use for a post.

Some companies make a habit out of sourcing UGC and using it as a backbone of their marketing campaign. People love to see real people using a product or service, and will be more likely to buy. Plus you can tag the person that provides the UGC and make them ‘insta-famous’ on your account.

UGC provides a genuine review of your product or service, helps to build a loyal fan base. This is also completely free to nurture and collect, with the general courtesy of asking permission and crediting the original poster. You can also use a hashtag to get people to post under so you have consistent content through this channel.

You can use these in ad campaigns also, to sell. This is a way of making sure that people get the right feeling about your brand and want to click through to see more.

Here are some things to keep in mind when using UGC:

  • Be original. Do your customers want to see how many stars out of 5? Do your customers want descriptive reviews? Do your clients want to see pictures of the clients that is recommending the product/service?

  • Make it authentic. People can spot a fake review. Whereas a great review comes from genuine happiness and excitement for your brand so keep an eye out and cultivate those.

  • If you are trying to sell a particular product/service that is not generally known much about, make sure to get reviews from customers that add value to potential customers - what pain points it solves, how it makes their life easier, etc. You can see if you can interview a happy customer to get these answers.

  • Tag the person that gives the content with their social media handles.

Start off with these tips, and build from there! Let me know how you get on.
