Why a Facebook Group is great for business

Facebook groups have been growing in importance in the last few years, and as I’ve mentioned in previous blogs, there is a movement towards messenger apps for people, prompting Facebook and Instagram to provide standalone messaging apps.

An offshoot of that is the Facebook Group. You can have a group for pretty much anything - I’m a proud member of the Kath and Kim community and it brightens my day!

For business, this is a much underutilised tool. This is an important part of customer engagement that you can use to convert into sales.

Theres an Australian artist - Jumply-Umph - who provides an excellent example of a great Facebook Group. She built her Group page around people showing off their purchases, and it grew into a big community of likeminded people who discuss a wide variety of topics! She is nearly at the 2000 member mark and is growing.

What are your customers and followers like? Are they quirky? Are they looking for self care remedies? It goes back to knowing your customers pain points and how you can solve them. If you build around those, you will get people requesting to join your group as they want to learn or be entertained by you, or more importantly find likeminded people.

The key with groups is not to promote your product overly. You can share your story, expertise, and humour but either everyone in the group will know what you do already, or they will be attracted to tap on your profile and see what you do anyway. The point of the group is to rally people around the pain points and work together on how to solve them. People can ask questions, share stories, or even go off topic and share dog pictures! It’s a fun place to be and its rewarding seeing everyone talk and collaborate.

It is time consuming, and as Admin you will be responsible for keeping your group in line with Facebook rules, or you will be penalised. Have strong group rules and penalise people who don’t follow them. However if you invest time in a group, your content will be more seen by members of the group and beyond, as people may share things outside the group (unless you make it private)

However you will find and cultivate a great community, and learn what potential and current customers want from your and your business - its invaluable market research!

DM me on social media and let me know if you have started a group!
