Why make an Email List?

In one of my previous blogs, I talked a little about if social media platforms went away, what would you do?

One of the fundamental things is to make an email list.

Your email list is important as it’s not just people that are fair weather friends. They have handed over their personal email address in the hope of receiving entertainment, education, products and offers from you. They like your business enough to want to read it in their personal inbox.

This is an important part of the Know Trust Buy funnel - it’s in the Trust section.

With GDPR and new laws in California regarding personal information, you have to be careful with how you request the email address from your followers. Don’t give them something free in exchange. Instead talk about why your email will help them. What value will you bring?

A client of mine has a dedicated email list as she only send out an email quarterly. That works for her followers as they get a nice long email about what’s happening in her business and engage more with it.

The key to seeing how many emails you can send out is to define when people start unsubscribing. Then you know your maximum number of emails you can send in a certain amount of time. You may only send the maximum when you need it, like during shopping events etc, or you may want to send out as many emails as possible as you have seen a lot of conversions.

Push your email list once every few posts. Put it as a call to action. Make it easy for them to subscribe, get as little information from them as you can, and don’t forget to get them to double opt in - this creates a level of trust.

Do exclusives for your email list - first to get a discount code, or get a free printout. Do a email list only seminar.

Your email list is yours. Treat it with respect and cultivate it mindfully, and it will convert into sales for you. This is an invaluable piece of marketing that you can use when crisis hits (such as COVID-19) or if your social media platforms disappear. It’s a much underutilised piece of martketing.

Make sure to do your SMART goals for this, and your email list will become your secret weapon!

An example of an email I used to do for a client was do a short message to their followers detailing what’s going on behind the scenes, news, etc. Then their latest offer, then underneath put a blog or video that would help the person reading it, then social media and website links, and then sign off. This gets across a lot of different information and means that you don’t have to send out an email out for every individual thing.

You can follow this email up with a reminder of the latest offer, and more info about why this offer will benefit your email followers.

You can then send another one with a countdown, more benefits, and a personal message.

Again, you will know what number to hit before your followers start unsubscribing, but being visible in your followers email inbox is invaluable.

There are many email strategies you can work in but the first one you need to do start your email list!

Good luck and DM me on social media to let me know how you are going!
